Since April 2012, The Association of Haitian Women in Boston (AFAB-Kafanm)  now offers French heritage classes every Saturday from 12.00 to 2.00 pm, in association with Harvard department of French Studies and The French Heritage Language Program. The classes aim at teaching French language through francophone cultures to students of French-speaking background willing to learn or keep up their French and maintain a strong connection with their cultures of origin. With a focus on Haitian culture, the French class at AFAB offers a good complement to the English as a Second Language class, as research has shown that strengthening literacy in the home language can also help learn a second language. The classes involve students of Harvard University, thanks to the help of professor Carole Bergin, and receive technical and financial support from the French Heritage Language Program, in partnership with the French Consulate in Boston.
