Summer University Programs in the US ▾

Summer Universities 

The French Embassy offers "Summer Universities" for teachers, in collaboration with universities, teachers' associations, Alliances Françaises, local school districts and educational authorities. These summer sessions last a minimum of 3 days with at least 5 hours of training per day, in different parts of the United States. Teachers have the opportunity for a full French immersion experience. Select programs also offer the possibility of obtaining professional development or continuing education credits through local educational authorities.

For participants, training fees are covered by the Educational Affairs Department of the French Embassy. Meals, parking, housing costs (when necessary) are the responsibility of the participants.

Since 2010, Summer Universities have been organized across the United States have have benefited hundreds of teachers in all stages of their careers.

• Chicago: 3-day seminar (June 23-25, 2016 ) organized by the Cultural Services at the Consulate General of France in Chicago at the Lycée Français de Chicago in partnership with the Alliance Française de Chicago the theme of "La systématisation, un apprentissage durable des savoirs
favorisant la communication authentique." Trainer: Angela Silva from the CCC-IFAL in Mexico.


 Palm Beach: 3-day seminar (June 11-13 2016) organized with the local school district on the theme of "Discovering France and the Francophone World"; Training session leader: Jacky Caillier, professor at the University of Perpignan

• Miami Dade: 5-day seminar (June 11-15 2016) organized with the local school district on the theme of "Discovering the France of Today"; Trainers: Jean-François Duclos (3 days), professor at the University of Denver, and Jacky Caillier


• Atlanta: 3-day seminar (June 21-23 2016) organized with the Alliance Française on the theme of "Developing Activities for Speaking in the Language Class"; Trainers: Nelly Chauvet and Philippe Guinet from the "Les passeurs de mots" association


• Washington DC: 3-day seminar (June 21-23 2016) organized at the Embassy of France in the United States on the theme of "Comment faire pour que les apprenants retiennent durablement ce qui leur est transmis en classe et utilisent ce savoir spontanément dans le cadre d’une communication authentique?"; Trainers: Angela Silva.
