Alliance Française chapters offer a wide range of exams, from French tests to globally acknowledged academic and business qualifications accepted by employers and further education institutions in many countries. The French language examinations correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) and range from A1 (for beginners) to C2 (for language skills at the highest level).

  • DELF and DALF Tout Public for All Audiences

The DELF (Diplôme d’Etudes en Langue Française) and the DALF (Diplôme Approfondi en Langue Française) are official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify foreign candidates’ proficiency in French. The DELF B2 and higher affords access to all French universities and to an ever-growing number of European and Francophone universities.

A DELF or DALF diploma confirms language proficiency at a given level, and is valid for life.

The DELF and the DALF certificates are made up of 6 independent diplomas corresponding to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CECR): DELF A1, DELF A2, DELF B1, DELF B2, DALF C1, and DALF C2.

The exams are divided into two parts: listening comprehension, written production, and written comprehension are tested in a written exam, while speaking and oral interaction are tested in a one-on-one exam with a proctor.

Important to note: The DELF and DALF do not assign you a level; you must sign up for the test that most closely corresponds to your skills. Placement tests like Evalang can help you identify the right test to take.

  • Test of Proficiency

The Test d'évaluation de francais (TEF) and Test de connaissance de francais (TCF) are reliable measurements for determining proficiency and are only valid for a period of two years following the date of the test. The expiration date of the test will be indicated on the candidate's certificate.

All examinations can also be taken by external candidates if they have reached the corresponding language level. It is nevertheless recommended that you take a preparatory course in one of our examination centers.
