Media centers

Creating and developing resource centers focused on contemporary France and the French-speaking world is one mission of the Alliance française. Wherever they are located, French media centers become a hub for Francophiles, learners of French, advanced French-speakers, and French expatriates. They offer a place to find information and entertainment and provide educational materials for young learners as well as learning tools for students of all ages.

Catching on to the fast evolution of information-communication technologies, ‘Alliance Française libraries’ progressively developed into innovative media centers to record and make available audiovisual documents. One example of this evolution is the Haskell Library at the French Institute Alliance Française of New York.

A second ‘revolution’ leads these media centers into an all-digital era, as proven by the Culturetheque Library,  launched in 2013, which currently gives access to thousands of ebooks and streamed french-speaking magazines.
