Call for applications open: Teacher trainings with prestigious language studies institute

Are you ready for the 2021-2022 school year? After this pandemic year (and a half), could you use some extra pedagogical strategies and training to be fully prepared for a return to in-person learning?

The Educational Service of the Embassy of France is delighted to announce the opening of two scholarship opportunities this summer:

  • 10 scholarships for French teachers across the country to participate in language education trainings offered by the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) of the University of Minnesota;
  • 5 scholarships for teachers and administrators in dual-language settings to participate in the trainings offered by the Center of Applied Linguistics (CAL).

Both scholarship opportunities are open to all French teachers (of French as a foreign language for CARLA specifically, and in bilingual or dual-language environments for CAL) currently employed in a K-12 institution. All trainings are synchronous to maximize learning potential, and take place for several days during June or July.

Classes at CARLA this year include "Creativity in the Language Classroom" and "Critical Approaches to Heritage Language Education", among many others. (To learn more, visit CARLA's website.)

For the CAL Institutes, the first program is geared towards teachers and administrators and focusing on the SIOP model: "CAL SIOP for Dual Language Programs: Developing Academic Language and Content in Two Languages". The second CAL training is aimed at school and district leaders who are seeking to deepen their practical understanding of the positive impact that bilingualism has on student achievement: "Leading Dual Language Programs for Student Success".

Don't miss this opportunity to learn strategies and cutting-edge language instruction methods from some of the best instructors in the field. All participants will receive certificates upon completion of their training course.

To apply for either scholarship, please see the link below. Applicants must answer several questions, provide proof of employment in a K-12 institution, submit a cover letter explaining their motivations to take part in the summer training, and indicate their first and second choices of training if selected.

Applications are due by May 20, 2021 at 6:00 PM EST. Scholarship winners will be announced by May 27.
