SPCD Summer Programs in France ▾

The SPCD (Stages Pédagogiques de Courte Durée) program offers funding for 22 American teachers to attend a short summer training in France : 14 positions are offered for teachers of French as a foreign language at Cavilam French Alliance in the town of Vichy ; 6 positions for teachers of Dual Language & Immersion programs at CLA (Centre de Langues Appliquées) in the town of Besançon ; and 2 positions for an intensive professional development course at BELC (Bureau pour l'Enseignement de la Langue et de la Civilisation Françaises) in the town of Nantes. The Embassy of France in the United States sponsors selected participants to attend these trainings.

Stage Cavilam 

« Pratiques et techniques fondamentales pour l'enseignement du FLE »

9–20 juillet 2018

à Vichy

Stage CLA

« Enseignement bilingue francophone »

2–12 juillet 2018

à Besançon

Nous offrons 6 bourses pour les enseignants de classes bilingue avec excellente maîtrise du français (niveau B2 minimum)



Eligibility 

 

- Applicants must currently hold a full time position as a teacher of French or a teacher in a French dual language or immersion program

- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. French nationals may not apply for the SPCD grants.

- Those who have received a grant from the French Government over the last 3 years may not apply for the SPCD grants

- Applicants must have at least an intermediate level of proficiency in French (at least B2* level on the CEFR scale)

 

*B2 level speakers can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc; deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken; produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest and describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.


 

SPCD Grant Details 

Each selected SPCD grantee receives:

  • Waiver of SPCD application fees to the training center
  • Train economy tickets from Paris to Vichy or Besançon
  • Housing and meals in French host families or on campus
  • Financial aid in the amount of $600 USD for an international flight from city of residence to Paris and back (each grantee will have to buy his/her own flight tickets and will receive a refund in the amount of $600 maximum after the training)
