2020 SPCD Summer Programs in France ▾

Thanks to the generous support of the Société des Professeurs Français et Francophones d'Amérique (SPFFA), we are excited to inform you that 15 more scholarships (for a total of 29) will be offered for teachers of French as a foreign language attending the SPCD program in Vichy!

The SPCD (Stages Pédagogiques de Courte Durée) program offers funding for  American teachers to attend a short summer training in France : 29 positions are offered for teachers of French as a foreign language at CAVILAM French Alliance in the town of Vichy ; and 6 positions for teachers of Dual Language & Immersion programs at CLA (Centre de Langues Appliquées) in the town of Besançon. The Embassy of France in the United States and the SPFFA sponsors selected participants to attend these trainings. The Cultural Services of the French Embassy are grateful to the SPFFA for their generous support.

Together with the hosting training institutions, we are following closely the COVID 19 situation and, at this stage, we plan on maintaining the program .

There will however be a delay of a few days to announce the chosen candidates.

Please be advised that, in light of the evolving nature of the current crisis, we reserve the right to cancel the program at a future date as new information emerges


Stage CAVILAM

« Pratiques et techniques fondamentales pour l'enseignement du FLE »

20–31 juillet 2020

Stage CLA

« Enseignement bilingue francophone »

6–17 juillet 2020

à Besançon

6 bourses offertes pour les enseignants de classes bilingue avec excellente maîtrise du français (niveau B2 minimum)



Eligibility 

 

- Applicants must currently hold a full time position as a teacher of French or a teacher in a French dual language or immersion program

- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. French nationals may not apply for the SPCD grants.

- Those who have received a grant from the French Government over the last 3 years may not apply for the SPCD grants

- Applicants must have at least an intermediate level of proficiency in French (at least B1* level on the CEFR scale for teachers of French as a foreign language ; at least B2** level on the CEFR scale for teachers in bilingual programs)

*B1 level is equivalent to the Intermediate High level on the ACTFL scale         

**B2 level is equivalent to the Advanced Low level on the ACTFL scale


 

SPCD Grant Details 

Each selected SPCD grantee receives:

  • Waiver of fees for the 2-week training
  • Round-trip train tickets from Paris to Vichy or Besançon
  • Housing and meals in French host families or on campus

PLUS : For grantees of the French Embassy:

  • Financial aid in the amount of $600 USD for international flights from city of residence to Paris and back ; plus ~$200 to cover additional expenses (taxis, bus tickets, etc.)

PLUS: For grantees of the SPFFA:

  • Financial aid in the amount of $800 USD to cover international flights from city of residence to Paris and back and to cover additional expenses (taxis, bus tickets, etc.)
